Government Official Says Ministry of Defence Investigating Security Risk from Chinese Cars, with Staff Told to Refrain from Secret Talk in Vehicles.

A defence minister has stated that the Ministry of Defence is actively investigating the possible threats posed by Chinese cars, while staff have been told to avoid talking about classified matters in all cars.

Safety Guidance for Defence Staff

In a recently aired interview on LBC, Luke Pollard commented on claims that MoD staff have been told not to talk about classified material while riding in China-made vehicles.

The minister explained that the ministry is “examining” Chinese vehicles within its vehicle pools, but emphasised that safety is a issue in all contemporary vehicles.

Our department has a fleet of tens of thousands of vehicles in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones account for a tiny fraction.
However regardless of if you’re driving a Chinese car or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our people is to avoid connecting MoD technology into their vehicle, to avoid having discussions at a classified classification in any kind of car, due to the increasing risks of surveillance that are present in every single automobile, to only have those confidential talks in protected areas. That’s a prudent and reasonable thing for anyone concerned about safety.

When it was put to him that it would be wise for the MoD to cease using every cars from China, the minister responded: That is precisely what we are looking into at the present time.”

Broader Defence Context

This revelation comes as reports from Scandinavian countries have warned the United Kingdom to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese buses, which could allow China to disable public transport and bring chaos to transport systems.

Furthermore, a Russian intelligence vessel was reportedly directing laser beams at Royal Air Force pilots, described as a “highly dangerous” act by defence officials.

This wider defence situation underscores the significance of strong protocols and caution in every aspects of government operations, including vehicle use to communication practices.
